Irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects the digestive system. IBS causes symptoms such as stomach cramps, boating, diarrhoea and constipation. Whilst there are several OTC products containing hyoscine butylbromide, many patients require a higher dose to relieve symptoms.
Buscopan is a medication used in the management of diagnosed Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is used to relieve the painful cramps and spasms in the gut associated with IBS. Known as an antispasmodic Buscopan is the brand name for the medication hyoscine butylbromide.
Buscopan Tablets dosage
Buscopan works quickly and can ease cramps within 15 minutes of taking the medication. Buscopan comes as 10mg tablets and for IBS associated symptoms the usual dosage is 1 tablet three times day; this can be increased to 2 four times a day based upon the prescriber’s advice. Buscopan can be taken either with or after food.
Who cannot use Buscopan?
- If you have had a previous allergic reaction to Buscopan.
- If you have angle-closure glaucoma.
- If you have an enlarged bowel.
- If you have myasthenia gravis.
