🍷 Concerned About Your Drinking?

We’re Here to Help – Discreet, Effective Support Available

The UK is known for its drinking culture — but for many, alcohol use becomes more than social. If you're worried about your drinking habits or finding it hard to cut down, safe and effective clinical treatments are available.

At Redwood Pharmacy, we offer a confidential  consultation, followed by tailored treatment options to help you reduce or stop drinking, depending on your needs and goals.

💬 No judgment. Just support and professional care.

🧠 Understanding Alcohol Dependency

Alcohol dependency doesn’t always mean drinking daily or being intoxicated. You may be dependent if:

  • You feel the urge to drink every day or find it hard to stop

  • You drink more than planned, especially in social settings

  • You rely on alcohol to unwind, feel confident, or manage stress

  • Cutting down feels difficult or triggers emotional discomfort

💬 What Happens During Your Consultation?

 We’ll cover:

  • A brief review of your current alcohol intake

  • Health risks and harm-reduction tips

  • Local support networks or counselling referrals

  • A discussion of treatment options

  • Emotional wellbeing check-in

This is a private, non-judgmental service delivered by trained professionals.

💊 Clinical Treatment: Nalmefene (Selincro®)

We offer Nalmefene, a prescription treatment for alcohol dependence, approved by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).

How it works:
Nalmefene blocks specific opioid receptors in the brain, reducing cravings and making drinking less rewarding — helping you gradually cut down your alcohol intake.

Who Is Nalmefene For?

You may be suitable if:

  • You're drinking more than 7.5 units/day (men) or 5 units/day (women)

  • You don’t have withdrawal symptoms

  • You’re not seeking total abstinence, but want to reduce drinking

  • You’re willing to engage in support sessions alongside the medication

Nalmefene is taken only on days when you anticipate drinking, and works best when combined with behaviour support.

🛑 Not Suitable For:

  • People with physical withdrawal symptoms

  • Those requiring medical detox

  • People with liver or kidney disease, or certain psychiatric conditions

  • Individuals seeking abstinence as a first step — a different pathway may be more suitable
